Hi!

If you don't know who I am, my name is Izabella, AKA Izzy/Bella, and I am a senior at H-B Woodlawn! I have always loved helping others and knowing I’m doing something for the greater good, which is why I love working with LLS. I became involved in 2020, and am so happy I've continued to do it. 

The reason we are Team Henry, is because we are honoring Henry Burneson who was a dear friend of ours. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2014, and sadly passed away October 16th, 2015. We have been raising money in memory of him, and to help fund blood cancer research to find a cure. 

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission. Raising money for research is a huge part of LLS's mission, but we also look to make treatment more equitable for patients and family. Right now, 61% of cancer patients and survivors find it difficult to pay for their cancer treatment, and they should be able to get treatment without having to worry about the cost. 

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients

• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.

• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care. Although there are some policies and legislation that allows underrepresented populations to access federally funded cancer clinical trials and treatments, there needs to be more in their benefit so they can receive the treatment they need.
