Emily's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser
I am Emily Ryan, a student at Walt Whitman High School leading a team called Vikes FIght 4 Cures to raise funding for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year campaign to support patients and cancer research. I have always wanted to take part in an organization that helps those in need. Two of my grandparents suffer from cancer and this effort will bring them great happiness. This fundraiser will help change many lives and encourage those who are suffering. Our team is dedicating its campaign to Katie who successfully battled Leukemia after being diagnosed 15 years ago when she was only 20 months. Personally, I am dedicating my efforts to my heroic grandparents who continue their fight and in memory of my grandfather who bravely fought cancer for many years.
LLS funds research that leads to targeted therapies and immunotherapies that are now saving thousands of lives every day. In fact, 40 percent of all new cancer therapies approved by the Food and Drug Administration since 2000 have originated from blood cancer reserach.
Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
On behalf of blood cancer and other cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org
