Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC
Layla Flack | Team Dawgs Against Leukemia
Layla's Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC Fundraiser
I am proud to be participating as a member of Team Dawgs against Leukemia raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) supporting reasearch, advocacy, and patient supports for those fighting blood cancers!
I decided to dedicate my time to LLS because of my grandma who is currently undergoing stem cell replacement therapy, formally known as CAR-T, for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She was treated twice before with chemotherapy, this being her second relapse. Thanks to ongoing research since her first diagnosis, treatments have advanced. CAR-T therapy was not approved at the start of her journey and now that it is available, we are hopeful that this will put her into long term remission! Because I know first hand how important research is, I am passionate about fundraising for LLS. When I learned about the Student Visionary of the Year program, I knew it was something I had to do.
Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.
I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without cancer, but I need your help.
As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:
- Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
- Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
- Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. Along with cash contributions, tribute book ads and silent auction items for the SVOY D.C. Gala are welcome and I'm happy to provide more information on either of these opportunities. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you!

I am so proud of my wonderful granddaughter, Layla Flack, for her advocacy in fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I recently underwent a stem cell transplant called CarT, which will, hopefully, put my relapsed Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma into long term or permanent remission. This treatment was just approved by the FDA for my specific type of lymphoma in December 2021. Research, research, research! Blood cancers are increasing at a rapid rate and thanks to the funding allocated to these diseases, treatments are greatly improving giving hope to the millions of individuals afflicted with these diseases. I’m one of the lucky ones. I am doing very well five weeks post- transplant and feeling very hopeful for my healthy future. Thank you so much to my family and friends for the support, positive vibes, prayers and love you sent my way as I navigated through my journey and fight to defeat my Lymphoma. Love, Alice

I am so grateful to know that my long time friend Alice has benefited from this treatment. In addition, my son was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins' Lymphoma in his 20's and is now 38 and healthy. We appreciated LLS then and now. Let's keep this research going.

It won't happen in my or Alice's lifetime but I long for a world without ANY kind of cancer. None! Not one cell. I am so far a lucky 3 year survivor of ovarian cancer. And I pray that my long time friend Alice's Stem cell treatment is 100% successful so she can live in total health and comfort amidst her beloved family. I truly believe that Stem cells are the way of the future so I am optimistic. Layla: Congratulations on your extraordinary efforts. You do your Mimi and all who know and love you proud.
