Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC

Eleanor Teal | Team Generation Cure

Eleanor's Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC Fundraiser

Jan 21, 2023

My Launch Post!

Hello! Welcome to my personal campaign, my name is Ellie Teal. I have volunteered to raise money with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year in honor of my grandfather, Charles Brown.

As of this year, I am a Team Member of the team, Generation Cure. Our mission as a team effort is to raise funds for Patient Support. It serves as one of LLS Mission Pillars as it supports local families affected by Blood Cancer, and improves the quality of life for patients. Throughout this process, me and my team will be working 24-7 throughout the months of January-March to raise as much as I possibly can for the organization. I am incredibly greatful for this opportunity tho make a difference in my community and in the lives of people affected by Blood Cancer.

The Mission

The Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) is a non profit organization that works to cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease, and Myeloma in an effort to better our world. LLS strives to improve the quality of life for patients and support families affected by Blood cancer. Their mission is made up of three pillars: Research, Patient Support and Advocacy as they all hold an important part in the fight to cure Blood cancer.  The LLS Student Visionaries Campaign allows high school students to be involved in philanthrophic action, and inspire other students to be in support of and take place in the fight to cure cancer. This opportunity allows high school students to make a difference in their future, and have an impact in the medical field and provide experience in fundraising and working with businesses.

About Me

A little about me! I am a junior at Thomas A. Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia. I have lived in Alexandria my entire life and have visited Washington Dc finest sites all throughout my life. My favorite place to go in Washington Dc is the Old Ebbit Grill during the holidays and get pictures in front of the Nut Crackers. I have a twin brother and older sister who I consider to be my best friends, as well as two cats that I adore! At school, I am involved in many extra curricular activities, including being a member and now President of Edison Minds Matter which advocates for positive coping mechanisms and allows students to have healthy conversations on mental health. I enjoy playing lacrosse on my high school, and have been so lucky to go to Prague and Munich this summer to play with my club team. I love to impact my community and advocate for issues I am passionate about, and with LLS Student Visionaries campaign, I get to do so as well as impact our future.

My Why

I became a Team Member of Generation Cure because this was a great opportunity for me to be a part of action that would impact the world for good. I joined the Student Visionaries Campaign in the memory of my Grandfather, Charles Brown. My grandfather, Grandpa Brown, passed from Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia in 2019. I have always been close with my family, and after the death of my grandmother in 2014 from Breast Cancer, my family had suffered a lot of loss from cancer. Gorwing up, Grandpa Brown was always making everyone laugh and was the entertainment for our family reunions. He could always put a smile on my face when I was having a hard day. My grandpa was an incredibly talented, intelligent man, and I have always aspired to have a work ethic and strong personality as he did. When I was nominated by a friend in my team, the first thing I could think of was my grandfather. In his memory, I hope to support other families suffering from Blood cancer, and be able to one day prevent families from having to feel the loss of a family member that mine did.

More of the Mission

Blood Cancer affects 1.4 Million Americans, and with the working of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, families all across the country

can be effected by the research, advocacy and support of LLS. It will make us one step closer to finding a cure for Blood cancers, as

well as inspire others to join the fight. That is why me and my team need supporters in our campaign so we are one step closer to a

better future for ourselves and future generations ahead of us.

With your support, LLS will continue to:

  • Fund research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics, and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients

  • Provide free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.

  • Mobilize thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

If possible, please consider joining this fight by making a donation! All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please

visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate! I am grateful for your support and consideration, my efforts will

help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer!

I would also like to take the time to show my infinite gratitude and appreciation for my Developmental Campaign Manager, Lizzie

Archer. And thank YOU for your consideration and for taking the time to read my fundraising page!
