Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC

Aayusa Dhakal | Team Generation Cure

Aayusa's Student Visionaries of the Year Washington DC Fundraiser

Jan 02, 2023

Nothing will change unless we change it.

- So let's work together to create a new generation, Generation Cure.

My Why ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There is no grand reason that I joined LLS’s mission to be the last generation fighting against blood cancer, but I don’t think I need a grand reason. I have always been interested in the medical field since I was young and currently there is a lot of groundbreaking research being done on blood cancers. Cancer is a unique disease and we haven’t been able to find a cure yet, but I know we will change that. Countless families are being affected by this awful disease and the treatment is subpar compared to a complete cure. I am not able to work on the frontlines of cancer research just yet, but I am able to work on the sidelines now, to help patients of blood cancers’ live a somewhat easier life. Working to help this cause is something that I will continue to do, even after highschool and I know that my peers and I  will make sure that we are the last to be affected by the countless ripples that cancer has caused on our still, peaceful waters.

More About Me (❁´◡`❁)

Hi! I’m Aayusa Dhakal and I am currently a Junior at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax. I enjoy baking and cooking in my freetime and I believe that nothing can cheer someone up like a warm chocolate chip cookie. I love to spend time outside with my friends and family and I often walk around my neighborhood. I love talking to my neighbors and learning more about their lives when they were younger. I am always curious, which has gotten me into some troublesome situations when I was younger, and I love to learn new things. My favorite subjects are Science and History, and I plan to pursue a career in the medical field. I am very much in touch with my heritage, being from Nepal, and can speak Nepali fluently and have done Kollywood dance since I was 10 years old. Exploring new languages is always fascinating to me and I have picked up a good amount of Spanish, Korean and Hindi from my friends and watching Netflix. I would have to say my favorite Korean word is 웬차나 which means “It’s Okay” and that tells you a lot about how I live my life. I just go with the flow and try to find the positives in everything, even though I tend to find the negatives first. Overall, I am excited to be a part of LLS and can’t wait to make an impact against cancer.

How YOU Can Help (⊙_⊙)?

Let’s Start the New Year with A Donation!

By donating to LLS you are funding the research that will end blood cancers’ by finding a cure. LLS is the second largest cancer focused organization in the world and has received over $414 million in donations from donors like you! All donations are also tax- deductible to the fullest extent. By helping others, you will also improve your own mood and increase happiness. It was found in a 2010 study that those who donated to charity experienced a happier mood. Donating would mean the world to these cancer patients who have gone through the holiday and are entering the New Year with their body fighting cancer everyday. With your help we would be able to offer patients better access to care and support cancer research. I hope your New Year's Resolution will be to help as many people as you can, starting with donating to LLS to end blood cancers’ once and for all.
