Neha's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 23, 2022

Welcome back to my page!

Thank you so much to everyone that has donated so far!

Today, I wanted to share my personal story about the campaign and why I decided to participate in the Students of the Year Program in the first place. When I was five, and my brother was three, my mom was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and was told there was a high chance of recurrence even with all the challenging treatments she went through. Soon after her diagnosis, my grandparents rushed in from India to help out, and my dad had to step in and take care of many more responsibilities. The treatments were already hard enough with everyone's, but without the help, the whole ordeal would have been close to impossible. As a child, I didn't know enough to understand what exactly was going on, but I still knew something was wrong with my mom's health. Luckily, she has been in remission for the past ten years, but I don't want any family to have to go through what we did.

With your help, this can be a possibility one day, so I hope you consider donating and sharing this page.

Wishing everyone the best!

How You Can Help

Jan 23, 2022

Hi everyone, and welcome to my fundraising page!

My name is Neha Reddy, and I am currently a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. At TJ, I'm part of the Students vs. Cancer club, which participates in Luminaria and Relay for Life through the American Cancer Society. This club has helped me gain previous experience with planning fundraisers and events relevant to this cause.

This year, I am excited to be participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Student of the Year Campaign for team proCURE! LLS is the biggest nonprofit dedicated to blood cancer research funding and has invested $1.3 billion in this cause since its start in 1949. For more information about LLS and its cause, please visit www.lls.org!

Cancer is still a prevalent cause of death in the world. According to the National Institute of Health's National Cancer Institute, approximately 18 million people are diagnosed with some form of cancer, and 10 million people die from cancer-related complications across the world every year. Also, based on statistics from previous years, approximately 39.5% of people will have cancer at some point in their lives; for a disease without a high chance of survival across all groups, it's an incredibly daunting thought.

Even when I first met the rest of my team, almost all of us had a family member or close friend diagnosed with cancer. While many of us had people close to our hearts that beat cancer, some didn't. Being able to have a person next to you one day and gone the next due to a disease such as cancer is a painstakingly difficult thing to stomach, but millions of people have to face it every year.

Through this campaign, my team will be working to raise as much money as possible for LLS so they can continue funding research to aid in cancer treatments and prevention. But, this isn't something I can do alone. I am thankful for any support you can give through donations to spreading the word, and please share this fundraising page with as many people you know. With your help with this campaign, we can help fight cancer and work towards a world without it.

With love,

Neha
