Mary Kincer | Team The Red Elephants

Mary's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 05, 2022

Hello all!! My name is Mary Kincer, I am currently a junior at the Academy of the Holy Cross, and enjoy swimming, running, and skiing. This winter I am so excited to say I will be participating in the 2022 Leukemia and Lymphoma Societies DC Students of the Year Campaign as a team member on team The Red Elephants!

About my Team:

The team The Red Elephants is a legacy team from the Academy of the Holy Cross that has been participating in the SOY campaign since 2018. Last year the team raised over $81,373 and this year with your help we hope to raise even more. You may be wondering how elephants have anything to do with beating blood cancer but let me be the first tell you they do! Team Red Elephants hopes to adress the elephant in the room, cancer. We hope to be the generation to stomp out cancer!

My Why:

I joined this campaign to support my friends who are currently dealing with the impacts of cancer on their family, to support mentors and teachers in my life who have been there for me and are currently fighting their battles with cancer. And finally to support peers the same age as me in my community who have received this tough diagnosis at such a young age. Cancer truly does touch everyone and I want to be the generation to end it.

About the Campaign:

The campaing lasts 7 weeks through these 7 weeks I will be working to raise as much money as possible. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign, the team with the most votes wins the prestigious titles of Students of the Year.

Everyone loses when cancer wins, but thanks to people like you, LLS (the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) is able to fund therapies and treatments that saves lives. The good news is your funds are truly making a difference in the past 60 years we have seen the survival rates for some blood cancers have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. These new treatments and therapies dont just help blood cancer treatments but are also now used to treat other forms of cancer. Currently blood cancer treatments are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostrates cancers. Overall the takeaway is that this campaign and your support DOES make a difference.

All donations are greatly appreciated and are even tax-deductible. These donations support the three goals of LLS to improve patients life: research, access, and advocacy.

I will be updating my website with campaign progress, so please feel free to visit my website often, and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Great job, Mary! I’m donating in honor of my niece Embree Duffy, who has struggled with leukemia. Without the work of the LLS, the treatments that saved her life would not be available. Thank you for your important work raising funds for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society!
