In Loving Memory Of:

Robert O. McNey (1942-2014)

Why I Want to Help!

On October 26, 2014 I lost my grandpa to Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was the strongest person I have ever met, as he fought everyday for his life and his family. He was able to beat bone cancer, but eventually traces had spread to his brain and then back to his bones. As this type of cancer progresses, it limits the body's ability to fight infection which is extremely painful and hard on the body. I spent a lot of my days after school in the hospital visiting him, telling him about my life and my dreams. He always had the wisdom to know what to say and I wish he were able to be here today. I miss him very much, but I know he's looking down in a better place happy, watching over me. One of the hardest things about cancer is seeing someone you love so dearly in pain.

I'm very excited to be a part of making a difference for patients and families in my community as well as across the country. Watching someone so close to me go through cancer especially at such a young age was very heartbreaking. Given the opportunity to do something to better other people's lives is a blessing and something we should all take advantage of. So many people around us go through things we don't know about and if we were able to make it a little better why wouldn't we? It only takes a few minutes out of your day to spread the word, share the links, educate your friends, and donate. No amount is too small!

This campaign is a great way to honor my grandpa and other patients who have lost or are suffering from the effects of cancer. We can support LLS' life-saving work by donating and spreading awareness during these 7 weeks. No family should have to endure the pain of losing a loved one.

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you have been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients, but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

All donations are greatly appreciated, they'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org

Bobby Mac was a coach to everyone, and everyone had a chance to play an inning. I just happened to play in the beginning and the last 2 innings when it counted. Our journey together was up and down but like every player hardship is what builds our character. My father’s character can be described as a gentle giant with GOD's heart in his final innings. We all know families that have their struggles and ours was no different, except this father never wavered in his faith and love. My dad never saw me come back home; but I know – when Bobby Mac got upstairs, he saw his son on the ball field – I am so very thankful Lindsey and Kendall saw my dad when he was healthy and before he passed. Thank you, dad for being a great father, grandfather, coach, and everyone you touched. I hope to be the man and father you were in the end. You’re an ALL STAR in my book!!! Signing off as coach, dad, and Bobby Mac. Love Jeffrey your son
