My name is Katrin Bergesen and I'm a junior at Yorktown High School. I am representing Team SWAG, led by candidates Sadie Oneal and Sarah Finkel. I am so beyond excited to be a part of the 2022 Students Of The Year (SOY) program in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)! When I was 7, I lost my grandfather from acute myeloid leukemia. He was such an important person to me and made my world a brighter place. After his passing, I started joining my mom at LLS events such as Light the Night Walks and fundraisers with the hopes that my actions could help others avoid facing the same fate as my grandfather. These events inspired me deeply and when the opportunity to join the SOY program appeared, I didn't hesitate one bit before becoming a team member. My hope is that you will help me in the worldwide fight to find a cure for blood cancers by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you all so much for your support!
