Six years ago my brothers and I helped my parents raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). We held lemonade stands and donated all our earnings to LLS. 

Now I have joined my own LLS fundraising team as part of the Student of the Year campaign. Along with our family friends Jack and Grace Sherner and their team of students, I am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. 

I am fundraising in honor of my grandfather PopPop, who was taken by cancer before I got to meet him. Here he is with my older cousins. It may be that an LLS-funded treatment would have allowed him to live long enough for me to meet him, too. 

Over the years, LLS research has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers. But LLS-supported therapies help more than just blood cancer patients; they are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
