Emily Ryan | Team Cure

Emily's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 21, 2022

I am Emily Ryan and I have always wanted to take part in an organization that helps those in need. Two of my grandparents suffer from cancer and I know any help will bring them happiness. This fundraiser is to help change peoples lives and encourage those who are suffering. I am representing Walt Whitman High School as a team member in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2022 Students of the Year campaign. The campaign is designed to raise funds and awareness for LLS’ mission to cure blood cancers.  Our team is dedicating its campaign in honor of 14 year old Alex Eissenstat, a 5 year survivor of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), and his continued fight with LLS in their ongoing battle against blood cancers.   Personally, I am dedicating my efforts to my heroic grandparents who continue their fight against cancer and in memory of my grandfather who bravely fought cancer for many years.

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.  In fact, 40 percent of all new cancer therapies approved by the Food and Drug Administration since 2000 are blood cancer therapies.

Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.

On behalf of blood cancer and other cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org
