I'm so happy and thankful that you are here. 

My name is Emma Gomes and I am a junior at the Academy of the Holy Cross! I am a team member for The Leukemia & Lymphoma society's Students of the Year campaign on my outstanding team, The Red Elephants and we are so ready and excited to help save lives together. My Honored Hero

Along with the other countless reasons why I chose to join the Student's of the Year campaign, my honored hero, Willie Hughes, is my #1 inspiration and motivation. To know Willie was to love Willie. He fought his pediatric glioblastoma cancer with everything he had, harder than anyone could have imagined. For more than two years, he endured all the treatments he could in hope of a cure. Tragically, he lost his hard battle of 2.5 years. Although he was younger than me, he is one of my biggest role models and he continues to inspire me and so many others everyday. Willie's cancer was not a type of blood cancer, but blood cancer research leads to treatment advances for other cancers. Together we can help change other people's stories so that they get to experience the ending that we all hoped and prayed for Willie. I hope that you join me in honoring Willie and the millions who have been affected by cancer through this campaign!

More About the Campaign:

As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 
We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
