     My name is Anne Stuart Waltzman and I am a Junior at Connelly School of the Holy Child. I am honored to be a Co-Candidate for Believe in a Cure in the 2022 Students of the Year campaign. By signing up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), I am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?
 

    Being able to contribute to such an amazing organization is very inspiring to me. Last year, I became sick with a heart and autoimmune disease that is attacking the autonomic system. I spent a lot of time in the hospital. I was scared to be sick and not know what was happening. Thankfully, I got through it with the love of my family and the wonderful nurses at Children's National Medical Center. I still have to receive treatment frequently but I no longer have to go visit the hospital, at least for now. I understand the feeling of being sick and not getting better; it was absolutely terrifying. I wouldn't wish that feeling upon anyone else. Being a part of this campaign allows me to raise funds for people struggling with blood cancers; which allows me to be there for others and support them. I am a fighter and I am ready to fight for a cure for blood cancers!

As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 

I am so proud to be raising money to find cures for blood and other cancers in honor of 14-year-old Alex Eissenstat, an ALL survivor. He dealt with 2 years of aggressive blood cancer treatments. His treatment included high dose steroids, weakly and monthly infusions, countless pills, and quarterly spinal taps- after his treatment in 3rd Grade. Because of these aggressive treatments, it took almost 3 years for his body to fully recover from the effects of chemotherapy. Alex is 5 years off his treatment and he is able to do everything that he always dreamed of doing when he was sick. In his spare time, he increases funds for pediatric cancer research and the rights of people with disabilities!

We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
