Students of the Year Washington DC
Emma Dowd | Team Gators Beat Blood Cancer
Emma's SOY Fundraiser
Welcome to my Fundraising Page!
I am honored to be participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2021 Students of the Year (SOY) campaign. Last year, I was a team member on my school, Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart's team, Gators Beat Blood Cancer and am excited to be a Candidate this year. The campaign is a seven-week initiative, starting January 23 and continuing through March 13, in which high school students from around the country are nominated to participate in a fundraising competition to benefit LLS’s mission: to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
I am raising funds in memory of my grandfather, Donald Dougherty who passed away from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) before I had the chance to meet him. My friend, Meaghan Kilner, '20 at Stone Ridge, is truly inspiring. Four years ago, she was diagnosed with Stage 2A Hodgkins Lymphoma and bravely found through her relapse 10 months later. LLS provided support and resources to Meaghan and her family. Two years ago, she was the Honored Hero of the year and is currently in remission. I know many others affected by blood cancer which is wny I am passionate about this great cause. Please help me raise awareness and money to put an end to the devestating effects blood cancer has on so many.
Each dollar is a vote and the team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Students of the Year. As a team, our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Please join us in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, our efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.
LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.
And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
Please visit our team page often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

Dear Emma, Thank you so much for doing this very important and selfless work. I lost a very dear friend to blood cancer several years ago. So, I am making this donation in memory of my friend, Marybeth Walsh, who was a true inspiration and role model to so many people. Although she lost her battle to blood cancer at age 51, she profoundly touched so many lives during her lifetime. She is sorely missed, so thank you for helping others to fight this insidious disease. I wish you tremendous success in your fundraising efforts. Keep up the good work!

I live in Iowa, and my sister Karen had leukemia when we were growing up in PA. She was treated at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and was lucky to survive. She had many health troubles over the years from all through radiation and chemotherapy. May more research help those who live with leukemia...From DesMoines Iowa
