Katie Yost | Team Gators Beat Blood Cancer

Katie's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 22, 2021

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, welcome!

I am so honored to be participating in the 2021 LLS Students of the year fundraising campaign! This year, I am participating as a Candidate for my school, Stone Ridge's team called Gators Beat Blood Cancer. This is a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and support their mission "to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families."

I am participating in this campaign in honor of Reilly Webb, my neighbor who sadly was a victim of childhood cancer and passed away in 2017 from Leukemia and Lymphoma. Reilly passed away at just 17 years old and the money that I am raising in this campaign will go directly towards research that will help to cure blood cancers.

Students of the Year is a crucial campaign for LLS and has allowed them to discover more effective treatments for LLS, including the Children's Initiative, a $100 million multi-year effort to take on children's cancer through research, patient education and support, and policy and advocacy that was created in 2019. This initiative makes an incredible impact to children like Reilly and their families and allows them to more easily find the support and care they need.

I encourage you to join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. By donating to LLS, you support the many facets of LLS’s mission work from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal levels for legislation to help those living with cancer. My appreciation for your support cannot be overstated — each and every dollar donated to LLS brings us closer to our goal to end blood cancer and makes an impact for cancer patients and their families.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

Please visit my website as often as you can and share it with everyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer. Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.

On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you for your support!

Marty’s first wife Helen sadly passed away nearly 20 years ago of a rare blood cancer. She fought so hard for 3 years but sadly she was taken far too soon at age 45. She left two beautiful young children (Jonathan and Abby) who are a joyful reminder of her legacy. There was limited research at the time. Hopefully we can find a cure ... thanks for keeping the fight alive on behalf of the Goldstein family and the DePoy family. We all appreciate it very much and most especially Jon and Abby.
