For those who do not know me, I am Kate Fuller and a 10th grader at Walter Johnson High School.  This year I am joining Team Aces for a Cure to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).  I am excited about working with an organization that is making a real difference in the fight to cure blood cancer.

I encourage you to join me in supporting LLS by donating to my fundraising campaign. By donating to LLS, you support the many aspects of LLS’s mission from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer. My appreciation for your support cannot be overstated — each and every dollar donated to LLS brings us closer to our goal to end blood cancer and makes an impact for cancer patients and their families.

My "why" for helping raise money is how something so simple, like donating money, can make such a large difference in someone's life!  Since I started working with LLS, I was constantly impressed with their amazing facts.  One of the most inspiring facts is that LLS’s fundraising campaigns have raised nearly $1.3 billion investment in cutting edge cancer research worldwide since it was founded in 1949. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled.  LLS not only raises money for the scientific aspect of curing cancer, but LLS also works with individual patients and their families.

The DC Area chapter of LLS's honored hero this year is Kory.  Kory has recently passed from this second fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  During his 15 year life, Kory worked with as many LLS campaigns as he could and he is an inspiration to all of us.  By donating money to LLS's cause through my campaign, you are honoring Kory's life and all that he fought for.

Even though Kory lost his life to blood cancer, many others survive. Every aspect of LLS’s mission – research, education and support, and policy and advocacy – work in harmony to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases. That is why at LLS we say that beating cancer is in our blood.
