I am Katie Bernhardt and I am so excited to have been nominated to participate in LLS SOY 2021 as a member of team SWAG! As a young women, this fundraising initiative is a unique leadership opportunity that will teach me life skills, as well as help make a difference in blood cancer patients lives, and spread awareness. Cancer has played a big role in my life and has affected many of my family members. A few people I am honoring in my campaign are my Grandma who passed away due to lung cancer in 2008, my Grandpa who lost the battle to brain cancer in 2020, my other Grandpa who beat throat cancer, and lastly, the 2021 LLS honored hero, Kory Coates. Kory just recently passed away early in December 2020 after a long fought battle against AML. We keep him in our hearts and do this #ForKory . The mission for LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin's disease, and in addition, improve the quality of life for patients and their families. The three pillars of LLS's mission are research, access, and advocacy. I urge you to consider donating and help me reach my goal of over $5,000.
