Joshua Santiago | Team CAVS 4 Cures

Joshua's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Jan 24, 2021

Welcome! My name is Joshua Santiago and I am part of team CAVS 4 Cures. I am a junior currently attending Woodson High School. I truly appreciate you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page!

I chose to participate in the Student of the Year (SOY) fundraising campaign for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), because I want to be a part of the solution to help families impacted by cancer. My soccer team's goalie Ben was diagnosed with blood cancer at a young age and because of this, he was unable to play soccer this season. Recently, I found out that one of my mom’s cousins died of leukemia as a teenager. When she mentioned that to me, I thought if there was a cure, then I would have gotten a chance to meet him. Also, one of my aunts living in New York was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was able to beat it, but unfortunately that's not the case for every cancer patient and wasn’t the case for one of my great-aunts who died at the age of 33- leaving behind my uncle when he was only 5 years old. Cancer interrupts the daily lives of families around the world, and I want to help put a stop to it.

I greatly encourage you to join me and LLS in the fight against cancer by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. By making a donation, you are contributing to the numerous objectives of LLS’s mission work from investing in groundbreaking research, providing education and support to patients, and advocating at the state and federal level for legislation to help those living with cancer.

As a global leader in the fight to end cancer, LLS is committed to doing more for blood cancer patients and families than any other organization in the world. All of LLS’s fundraising campaigns drive critical support for its mission, including a nearly $1.3 billion investment in cutting edge cancer research worldwide since it was founded in 1949. Since the 1960s, survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled thanks to advances in cancer research.

Every element of LLS’s mission - research, education and support, and policy and advocacy - work in unison to put blood cancer patients and their families first. LLS has helped millions impacted by cancer throughout its more than 70-year history, even funding breakthrough blood cancer research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures that is now helping patients with other cancers and diseases.

Please visit my website as often as you can and share it with everyone you know who would also like to join us in the fight against cancer. Together, we have the power, the passion and the resolve to achieve a world without blood cancer. All donations are tax-deductible.

On behalf of cancer patients and their families everywhere, I sincerely thank you for your support!

My childhood friend lost her dad earlier this week to lymphoma. My heart hurts for her and I can't pretend to know what she is going through. As a child, I remember when she also lost one of her older brothers to leukemia. While I know that her dad and brother are once again united, the pain for her is still there. Continued prayers and strength to her and her family. RIP Uncle Eddie!
