I started my campaign for Student of the Year (SOY), with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), because I don't want families to have to experience the pain of having a loved one suffer from blood cancer. Before my campaign started my team and I met with Ryan Youngblood's cousin Hunter. He was diagnosed with Leukemia at age 11. He beat cancer and told us what it was like to have it, as well as his mother telling us what is was like for her to see one of her children have to go through chemotherapy. Another connection is with my soccer teams amazing goalie Ben. He was diagnosed with leukemia so young he can't even remember it. Just recently I learned that the 9 year old brother of a old friend in Los Angeles was diagnosed with leukemia. It's scary that blood cancer has affected a number of people that I know. I want to make sure no families have to go through the terrible experience of having or having a loved one with blood cancer... or, any cancer for that matter.
