Today 1.2 million Americans are fighting or are in remission from blood cancers, and every three minutes another person unknowingly joins the fight. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated me as a team member in their fifth annual Student of the Year (SOY) fundraising campaign. I am proud to be apart of the team, Gators Beat Blood Cancer (the 1st Stone Ridge team), and work towards raising money over the next 7 weeks (January 11 to March 3, 2018).

This campaign became personal for our team of Stone Ridge students when just last year, cancer directly touched our school community. One of our classmates and incredibly passionate member of the Gators Beat Blood Cancer team, Meaghan Kilner, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age fifteen. After intensive treatment, months in the hospital, and many prayers offered throughout the community, Meaghan went into remission! Unfortunately, a few months ago at the beginning of her sophomore year, Meaghan was re-diagnosed with Lymphoma. Nevertheless, Meaghan continues to fight.

We have the power to make a difference, and you can help make that possible. Please consider supporting the Gators Beat Blood Cancer, not just for Meaghan, but for all the children who are battling this horrible disease. The money  raised will go directly to support LLS and its longstanding mission to find a cure to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
