Hi everyone! My name is Ethan Engel and I’m a sophomore at St. Albans. I am so excited to work with Team Close this year! Our job is to raise money to fund research for certain cancers, especially for blood. Our program, Students of the Year, runs for seven weeks beginning January 18, 2020. During this period, Team Close members and other high school students around the nation collect as much money as we can, and all of it goes toward funding the research. 

Although funding blood cancer research is LLS’ main focus, a lot of the donations are spent on researching other cancers (such as lung, brain, breast, pancreatic, and prostate cancers), and even noncancerous diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. This organization means a lot to me since two of my grandparents have passed away from lung and gastrointestinal cancer. LLS gives me a way to honor my grandparents’ memories and help others who struggle as they did.
