Welcome to Alex Waldren's SOY Fundraising Page!

Welcome to my fundraising page!

My name is Alex Waldren and I am a sophomore at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School (OLGCHS). I live in Maryland with my parents and older brother.  I participates in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program at my school.  I also enjoys playing soccer and basketball at OLGCHS and in my soccer club. Many of my family members have been affected by cancer.  My grandfather died from cancer and other family members have been afflicted with this disease which is one of the reasons why I am so passionate about being a Students of the Year (SOY) candidate. I learned about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)and SOY from my classmates, and I am very excited about this opportunity to help make positive change for people struggling with cancer.

LLS aims to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, as well as make a positive difference in the lives of patients and families who face cancer. SOY campgain lasts seven weeks. In those seven weeks, high school students are challenged to raise as much money as possible to help fund cancer research. My team and I have worked very hard over the past few months to prepare for the upcoming SOY campaign and to make the maximum difference in the fight with cancer.

We have created goals setting meetings and idea planning during the summer

As well as hosted events to promote the campaign

LLS has made extraordinary advancements in the cancer research department.

  • LLS funded 43 of the 49 FDA approved treatments for blood cancer patients since 2017
  • Since 2000, more than 40% of the new cancer therapies approved by the FDA started as blood cancer research
  • In 2019, LLS established The LLS Children’s Initiative, a comprehensive $50 MILLION multi-year endeavor, to help children with cancer through every facet of LLS’s mission:
    • More than doubling our investment in pediatric cancer research grants
    • Expanding education and support service for children and their families
    • Advocating for and driving policies to accelerate the development of new treatments and break down barriers to care
    • Launching LLS PedAL (Pediatric Acute Leukemia), a groundbreaking global precision medicine clinical trial in acute pediatric leukemia

The funds LLS raises to aid cancer research does not only affect leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, but many other types of cancers as well.

With your help we can make a huge difference in lives of many children, adults, and their families. Please join me in supporting my campaign and LLS by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Any amount is appreciated and will make a difference!

LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled. Also, all donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.

Please feel free to visit my page often and share it to friends and family. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!
