Students of the Year Washington DC
Sabrina Lussier | Got CUREage
Welcome to Sabrina Lussier's SOY Fundraising Page!
March 2nd was our Grand Finale Gala!
It was so amazing to see and meet my fellow candidates and hear about all their amazing achievements.
I can’t believe the national capital area chapter raised just over $2 Million in just 7 weeks! I can’t even tell you how honored I am to be among the candidates in this year’s student of the Year Campaign. We did an amazing job and I’m so proud and thankful for everyone who helped.
A special shoutout to my teammate and co-candidate Maddie and Haley. We wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near our goal without your hard work and dedication to this amazing cause.
Another enourmous thank you to Molly, who is the unsung hero of our team’s success. You have done so much for the students in the campaign and our team and you never fail to be an encouraging force. We couldn’t have done it without you!
I also want to thank my dad, who coached, encouraged, and advertised me and my campaign the whole way. Love you!
And finally, a big, giant, immense thank you to EVERYONE who helped me. If you donated, if you told your friends, if you helped me organize, if you advertised, if you helped me network, and absolutely everything in between. Everyone who supported me through my campaign made this campaign and team what it was. We quite literally couldn’t have raised this absolutely vital money for the causes of curing blood cancers and helping its survivors without your patronage, and I cannot thank you enough.
Carl’s Corner
At Good Counsel we have concessions stand called Carl’s corner. Carl (the shop’s namesake and school wide personality ;) ) was kind enough to let us work at the store after school in order to receive part of the profits of the afternoon’s sales. Thank you so much Carl!
And another thank you to my teammate Olivia (pictured above) who helped man the booth, as well as Haley and her mom!
Tag Day!
In the last week of the campaign we had a dress down day to benefit our efforts.
A big thank you to Good Counsel for letting us hold this fundraiser and the students who supported us by dressing down.
And thank you so much to the Volunteers who helped us collect the money especially Ms. Cissel (our moderator), our team members Jessica and Jojo, and Haley who set up the dress down day with the school administrators!
Meet Tyler!
Happy Wednesday! ( and if you’re in the MD region :) hopefully a snow day! )
This is Tyler with his mom. Tyler is 7 years old and lives in Alexandria with his family. He is also an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) survivor and because of the dollars you are donating, kids like Tyler are able to beat cancer! Thank you for all your support and keep up the great work!
PS if you scroll back through my page you might find Tyler again! ;)
Benfield Sportscenter Fundraising
Remember even small donations help!
Yesterday my teammate Olivia and I had an opportunity to set up a table, raise awareness for LLS, and collect some donations. Benfield Sportscenter in Millersville, MD was gracious enough to allow us in their lobby for a few hours. A big thanks to them for all their help! :)
Honored Hero Reception
I had the pleasure of going to this year’s Honored Hero Reception, honoring not only our honored hero, Meaghan Kilner, but also previous patients and their families in their fight.
I got to spend some time with my teammates.
Met some inspiring people, like this little guy who fought his battle to Leaukemia and won! (Way to go Tyler!) :))
And a whole bunch of LLS Organizers and other SOY teams
I had a great time and found a new surge of motivation! Thank you LLS staff for another incredible event.

Dear Sabrina, I couldn't be prouder that you are doing this. You are an inspiration. I am dedicating this to the memory of my Uncle Arthur (Weber), whose death of leukemia when I was eight in 1975 (when few cures were available) affected me deeply (as it devastated my aunt and cousins), as well as to the memory of Laurent Murawiec, the husband and father of good family friends, who lost his battle with multiple myeloma in 2009. Good luck with the rest of the campaign. I am keeping my fingers crossed and will be cheering you on, every step of the way. Love, Mama

Thanks, Sabrina, for this fundraiser! As you know, Yohanna's Dad died of multiple myeloma in 2009, and LLS was of great help at the time. It's a wonderful organization.
