Thank you to everyone viewing this page!

My name is Samantha Galvin and I am honored to be a team member of the Red Elephants, representing the Academy of the Holy Cross, in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) 2019 Students of the Year campaign. From January 10th to March 2nd of 2019, students all across the country will be competing to see who can raise the most funds and awareness for LLS’s mission to cure blood cancer.

Our team took after the name of the 2018 Academy of the Holy Cross SOY LLS Team. The significance of the Red Elephants is this: cancer, can often be the awkward elephant in the room that no one wants to discuss, but we have decided that we want to address it and create awareness around blood cancer.

Our team’s goal is to raise $70,000 and we cannot do it without you! We are so blessed to have this opportunity to fight for such an amazing cause and we would love if you could help out too! We accept donations right on this page and also ways such as corporate sponsorships, personal gifts, matching donations, and silent auction donations. If you are interested in helping out in any of these ways (& more) please contact me at Sgalvin20@academyoftheholycross.org or 301-233-5662. Mail checks to my home address: 1504 Lake Norwood Way, Sandy Spring MD 20860. Checks should be made out to LLS and in the memo write our team name Red Elephants

Here is a picture of our team. The candidates are Erin Freeman, Bridie Fry, and Meghan Monahan. The team members are me, Isabella Fontana, Colby Bellaman, Campbell Bellaman, and Elizabeth Walsh.

I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
