The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS is the largest contributor to blood cancer research in the nation. LLS uses raised money for research, education and support and advocacy. During this seven-week campaign from January 10th- March 2nd, the campaign goal is to raise 2.25 million dollars. Each team competes against each other, in a battle where the team with the most money wins.  Please donate to help find a cure!
 

All my efforts in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Student of the Year Campaign are in memory of my beloved godfather, Steve Vermillion. Doctors diagnosed my godfather with the extremely rare Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, also known as AML. Steve Vermillion passed away six years ago on  November 15, 2012. Acute Myelogenous Leukemia develops in blood-forming cells(mostly white blood cells) and starts in the bone marrow, but then can move into the blood or other parts of the body. I participated in the LLS Student of the Year Campaign last year as a team member with the Panthers Against Cancer Team. Last year, my team placed first runner-up with $222,000. This year I am one of the candidate's of the Panthers Against Cancer team and hope to break last year’s total. Please consider donating to help find a cure for all blood cancers. 

This year's Honored Hero is  Meaghan Kilner! Each year the Campaign is dedicated to a local patient or survivor.  Meaghan is a junior at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, MD. Doctors diagnosed Meghan with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in her freshman year. She underwent chemo, radiation, and stem cell transplants. In her sophomore year, she joined her school’s cancer awareness team called Gators Beat Blood Cancer. Meghan raised over $10,000 during her first diagnosis for the Light the Night Walk. Meghan is very artistic and enjoys running track and swimming. Meghan is a true inspiration. We are so happy to have such an intelligent and bright young lady as our honored hero!!!
