I’m very excited to represent Georgetown Prep along with my good friend Matthew Yost and eleven team members from our class in the 2019 Students of the Year Campaign. We created Team Hoyas For a Cure to raise critical funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society(LLS). These funds are directed by LLS towards finding cures for blood cancer, ensuring access to the best available treatments for all blood cancer patients, and providing support for cancer patients and their families. LLS has been at the forefront of the fight to cure cancer and its work has led to great advances in cancer research and reducing cancer mortality rates. 

Students of the Year is a seven-week fundraising campaign in which high school students across the country compete to see who can raise the most funds and awareness for blood cancer. I am honored to be co-leading team Hoyas for a Cure and am willing to put in all of my effort to achieve our goal of $50,000. Your donation is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible. 

My family and I have been affected by blood cancer. My late grandmother, Joyce K. Farr, fought Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for a year. She went through chemotherapy and luckily went into remission. However, the chemotherapy she underwent weakened her heart and she developed heart disease a few years after she had been cancer free. The negative aftermath of this decades-old treatment ultimately led to her death in May of 2016. My grandmother's experience with blood cancer and chemotherapy is why I am eager to see the funds I raise help advance cancer treatment. Joyce is remembered by many as a loving friend, mother, and grandmother and I am participating in this year’s Students of the Year campaign in her honor.
