Nick Van Zandt | LOCO On Cancer

Welcome to Nick Van Zandt's SOY Fundraising Page!

Jan 10, 2019

My name is Nick Van Zandt, I am a Junior at Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville VA.  I am honored that I was asked to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year (SOY) campaign. I have seen the impact of cancer on people around me, including family friends, classmates, and my own family.  Just over one year ago, my friend and mentor lost her battle with cancer and I decided to join the fight.  That is when I met an amazing survivor who inspired me and gave me confidence to become a team captain for "Team LoCo on Cancer".  We are a team of students from Loudoun County with a goal to raise $50,000 to fund a research grant in the name of Sara Willis, a classmate who lost her battle with cancer this past Thanksgiving. In the short time I have been part of team LoCo on Cancer I have learned how cancer has impacted people I have known for a long time, but didn't know about how cancer impacted them.  I am happy to put time and effort behind this cause!

The SOY program is a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising campaign to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I am proud to be raising critical dollars. Team LoCo on Cancer's mission is not only to raise money but also to bring attention to LLS, the leader in blood cancer research.  LLS research doesn't only help blood cancer patients, LLS' work has helped to increase the survival rates of many kinds of cancers. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
