Maggie Rutherford | Justice for a Cure
Welcome to Maggie Rutherford's SOY Fundraising Page!
I'm so happy that you have made your way to my page! My name is Maggie Rutherford, and I am so excited to be a co candidate alongside one of my close friends, Tucker Rawlings, for the 2019 LLS Students of the Year campaign! Over the next seven weeks I am honored to have the opportunity to truly make an impact for even more research advancements, and to better the quality of life for patients and their families. I cannot do this alone and I am so very thankful to have your support. Be sure to continue following alone throughout the campaign, I will be documenting this journey step by step as I go. Before the campaign begins, we'd love to share a little bit about ourselves!
Our team, Justice for a Cure, is composed of seven students that attend Justice High School in Falls Church, VA. Last year, my co-candidate, Tucker Rawlings, and I founded the Best Buddies program at our school, a club that strives to break social barriers in school and create an inclusive enviornment for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our club quickly grew at Justice, gaining over 120 members in just one year and having several school wide initiatives. Best Buddies has allowed me to branch out and meet so many different people in my school, provided me with leadership experience, and has made me feel so connected to seeking ways to help others. Having so much fun starting and learning so very much with Best Buddies, we are so excited to make an impact with the LLS SOY Campaign. In addition, I am in the National Honors Society, Music Honors Society, Leo Club, and play high school and club soccer.
I am so excited for this campaign to begin and am so glad you made it to my page! I hope that you will consider donating to us and spreading this link to help us reach out goal and make a difference.

Welcome to Maggie Rutherford's SOY Fundraising Page!
I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am excited to be representing my high school, Justice HS, alongside seven of my classmates on our team Justice for a Cure. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a former classmate who fought valiantly against cancer for several years, and a young patient hero, Meghan Kilner, who is a student in the National Capital Area in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
Thank you so very much for following along and supporting this campaign. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

I lost a nephew to Luekemia after a 3 year battle. He died just shy of his 7th birthday. As a result of this tragic loss, my brother and his wife divorced, so I also lost her. I am happy to see this effort for fundraising to find better solutions to treat this disease. Good Luck!

We didn't recognize your name and figured you'd gotten our name from LLS, since we've participated in some fundraising events here in Phoenix. Now that I see the messages from DeFilippis, I understand the connection. We're more than glad to contribute. My sister has CLL and, so far is doing well. Thanks for tackling this cause and best of luck with your SOY competition.
