Welcome to Makenzie Robinson's SOY Fundraising Page!
Hello, my name is Makenzie Robinson and I'm a junior at Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville, Virginia. I am so excited to have the privilege to participate in this years Student of the Year (SOY) campaign for the National Capital chapter of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS)! I became involved in this organization when shortly after my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer she took on the challenge of running in the Man and Woman of the Year campaign for LLS in 2016. Unlike my moms campaign, I have chosen to run as a team made up of students from both Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove high school. We call ourselves Team “LoCo On Cancer”.
SOY is a seven week fundraising effort that runs from January 10th through March 2nd. The title of “Student(s) of the Year” will be awarded to the team who raises the most funds. Our team have set our sights high with a fundraising goal to be $50,000! With your help I am confident that we will reach our goal and be able to fund a childhood cancer research grant in the name of who Sara Willis.
When deciding who or team would dedicate their efforts to there was no question who it would be. Sara Willis was a senior at Loudoun Valley battling brain cancer for the second time. Just days after we made our decision to dedicate the campaign to her, Sara had sadly passed away. This was extremely heartbreaking for all of us to hear, it made the importance of our efforts even more clear! With your help, we WILL reach our goal and be able to fund that research grant. Believe it or not, childhood cancer receives the least amount of funding for research.
Lots of people have asked me "Why LLS?" The answer is simple, LLS is the leader in not only blood cancer research, their therapies have also helped to increase the survival rates in many other types of cancer as well!
With so many people being affected by cancer, it's so important to me to be able to make a difference in their lives. I know that with everyone's help I will be able to reach and even pass my goal!
PLEASE, don't wait till this affects you or someone you love, your donation can help find the cure for cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
