Matthew Bruning | Team Close Cares

Welcome to Matthew Bruning's SOY Fundraising Page!

Jan 03, 2019

Dear Friends and Family,

This year I’m joining Team Close Cares (for St. Albans School and the National Cathedral School) in the 2019 Students of the Year campaign. For seven weeks, we will fundraise to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am honored to have your donations—this is a truly worthy cause!

What and whom do your donations benefit?

Your donations directly contribute to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds blood cancer research, supports patients and their families during cancer treatments, and drives advocacy for policies that protect patient access to lifesaving treatments. All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.

Why should you donate?

1.3 million people are living with or in remission from leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and every nine minutes someone dies from a blood cancer. Blood cancers are the most common type of cancer diagnosed in children and teens.

I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of my childhood family friend, Ryan Holt, who died at the age of five from a rare type of lymphoma known as Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. No family should have to go through what his family endured and continues to endure with the loss of Ryan, and with your help we can work towards a cancerless future.

We have made so much progress already! Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And blood cancer research goes to help other fields as well: in 2017 and 2018, thirty-seven new cancer drugs were approved by the FDA, and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helped to fund thirty-one of those!!! Donations directly backed these new cancer drugs.  Your donations really will help cure cancer!

How else can you help?

Bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

Matthew, so proud of you for leading this effort to help raise awareness about leukemia and critical dollars for the foundation. My father passed away from myelodysplastic syndrome which progressed to leukemia and he would not have been able to afford the costly chemo treatments without financial assistance from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The money raised does make it's way to families -- and it does make a difference. Thank you for supporting this important cause. Love, Aunt Julie
