Team Fire Hearts

Lilly Evans & Gabrielle Russo

Lilly Evans is a junior at The Madeira School in McLean, VA. She grew up in the small town of Easton, MD, along with her older sister and father. At Madeira she is in the Community Service Committee and is on the Varsity Rock Climbing team. She loves weightlifting, helping others in every way and contributing to her community, traveling, nature, and spending time with friends and family. During the summer she travels to Brisbane, Australia to visit her sisters, mother and stepfather, and other family relatives. She was driven to participate in LLS due to her family members being affected by Leukemia and because she wants to be a part of something larger than herself. She is thankful to be able to honor Gabrielle’s father for their campaign and seeks to improve and lighten the lives of others.

Gabrielle Russo is a junior at The Madeira School. She lives in McLean, VA with her brother, parents, and three dogs. At Madeira, Gabrielle plays volleyball, runs track and field, and is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council. When she is not at school, you can find her on a beach or spending time with her friends and family. During the summer, Gabrielle is a lifeguard and enjoys teaching young kids how to swim. Gabrielle also participates in service trips, and she enjoys learning how she can impact the world on a broader scale. She has always loved to help people and aspires to make an impact in the world in some way. Gabrielle is very grateful to be fundraising for such an outstanding organization while honoring her father who is a Leukemia survivor.

Gabrielle found out about LLS through the Light the Night Walk, which she participated in with her dad since she was little. She joined the campaign so that she could make a big impact on the lives of patients and their families the same way that LLS did for her. But, Gabrielle could not do it alone, and that is when Lilly volunteered to fill the other co-candidate position because she shares the same interest of helping others and transforming lives. Together the two friends have built a compassionate and driven team seeking to fight for the cure for cancer.

Welcome to Lilly Evans' SOY Fundraising Page!

Oct 04, 2018

I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
