Before this campaign started My co-candidate, Rebecca Damelin, and I went to multiple events to help prepare for this huge fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Rebecca and I have put in a lot of hard work, along with our team memebers, and we're all so grateful to have chosen to be apart of this association. My grandmother Dolores Reis was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma in 2005. I am thrilled to say that because of amazing research and cutting edge treatments, my grandmother is cancer free and has been for 14 years, Wow! Having cancer changed her life in many ways and it inspired me to apply for the Leukemia and Lymphona Society's Student of the Year program. Not only has my grandmother suffered from cancer, but there have been other family members who have too, and I am here helping fight for them and make it, so others can be cured and live a happy and healthy life again. In order to help with the cure, research must be funded. So, with that being said, the money I am raising during this campaign will be put to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help raise these funds to introduce more cures and trials for patients. You can be apart of this cure and help save lives just by donating. This year I have gotten the honor of being accepted as a 2019 candidate for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). My other co candidate, Rebecca Damelin, and I have built our team that goes by the name, Strive for a Cure. Over a seven week period, January 10th through March 2nd, our team will be raising funds to help beat cancer and help finance for cures and trials. As we get ready to start our campaign I ask you to be ready to look for our letter in the mail, and check your emails. We can't wait to contribute to this cause and we hope you all are willing to help as well! 

I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
