Grace Martin | Justice for a Cure
Welcome to Grace Martin's SOY Fundraising Page!
Thank you to everyone who came out to support Team Justice for a Cure at our Pizzario Orso Fundraiser! It was so much fun and we were so glad to see so many familiar faces. This was such a great way to raise money, eat great food, and to see friends! Thank you to everyone who donated, and we hope to see you all at our next fundraiser!
Introduction
Hi everyone!
My name is Grace Martin and I am so glad you are visiting my page! I am a freshman at Justice High School in Falls Church, Virginia. Just a little bit about me. I play lacrosse, field hockey, and I'm on the swim and dive team. I also love music! I play the violin at school, sing in my choir and play handbells at church, and I play the guitar in my free time. I am on my school's speech and debate team and I enjoy doing lots of community service in my free time!
I am so honored to be part of Justice High School's SOY team Justice for a Cure this year! I got involved with LLS three years ago when I began participating in Light the Night. I did it for Team InvincBill, which was my mother's boss, PLASTICS' President Bill Carteaux's team. After participating in this incredible experience for a few years, I am honored to be selected for the SOY program! I was very excited to work with my team and Mr. Carteaux during my campaign, but then he sadly passed away late last year from his battle with AML. I am now fundraising in honor of Mr. Carteaux and all of his efforts towards LLS ( the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). I am also fundraising for all the kids fighting their own battles with leukemia and lymphoma, in hopes of finding a cure for them, and everyone else with blood cancers!
Thank you for visiting my page and I hope you will donate to this amazing cause!
Honored Hero Reception!
Over the weekend, I attended the Honored Hero Reception! We got to hear from this year's honored hero, Meaghan Kilner, alongside many other leukemia and lymphoma fighters and survivors. It was an incredible way to learn more about what LLS does for those with blood cancers and to hear how it affects real people. This was a great way to prepare for the kick off of this exciting campaign!
Welcome to Grace Martin's SOY Fundraising Page!
I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!

In life there are many meetings and partings. My meeting with Bill Carteaux was most excellent. Bill's parting was most courageous. May we all be able to say the same.

$18 is an important number in Judaism that means "life", so a common donation amount. This is life times 4! Remind me later if you still need help reaching your goal.

Thank you for tackling this important work, Grace. When I was in elementary school, I walked door-to-door and passed out empty LLS envelopes to all of my neighbors and asked them for donations in honor of my grandfather, who was fighting leukemia at that time. It makes me very happy to be able to complete the circle and donate to the current generation of "young people" who are carrying the fundraising torch! All the best to you and your team -AHM
