The Late Dr. Al Mohiuddin Muzzammel Acute Myeloid Leukemia Research Grant Portfolio
The Late Dr. Al Mohiuddin Muzzammel Acute Myeloid Leukemia Research Grant Portfolio has been sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in June of 2013 from the funds raised through the 2013 LLS Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign through the support of family and friends. Since then the research projects within this AML Research Grant Portfolio has made groundbreaking breakthroughs in AML and blood cancer research. The Phase 3 clinical trial of CPX-351 (Vyxeos) is one of the research projects that has been funded through this AML research grant portfolio back in June of 2013.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Vyxeos last year in August 2017 for the treatment of adults with two types of acute myeloid leukemia (AML): newly diagnosed therapy-related AML (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC). Vyxeos is a fixed-combination of chemotherapy drugs daunorubicin and cytarabine. This is the first approved treatment specifically for patients with certain types of high-risk AML. AML is a rapidly progressing cancer that forms in the bone marrow and results in an increased number of white blood cells in the bloodstream.Patients with t-AML or AML-MRC have very low life expectancies. The safety and efficacy of Vyxeos were studied in 309 patients with newly diagnosed t-AML or AML-MRC who were randomized to receive Vyxeos or separately administered treatments of daunorubicin and cytarabine. The trial measured how long patients lived from the date they started the trial (overall survival). Patients who received Vyxeos lived longer than patients who received separate treatments of daunorubicin and cytarabine.
The Late Dr. Al Mohiuddin Muzzammel Life Story & Cancer Prognosis
My father, the late Dr. Al Mohiuddin Muzzammel passed away 7 years ago on March 19, 2011 from cancer. He was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Please continue to support this research grant portfolio funded as well as other treatments through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by making a donation to my Circle of Hope campaign fundraising page. Even though there was no cure in my father's lifetime, lets continue to support his legacy of helping others by supporting the cancer research through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My father was the most humble and generous person I knew. His whole life he would always help others. Here is a short video from that campaign that depicts the story of my father's life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh2EhpXfJ74

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, my efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.
LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.
And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!
