Triangle Students of the Year
Amir Yegani
Welcome to Amir Yegani and Mayank Vachhani's SOY Fundraising Page!
Thank you so much for your interest in supporting LLS’s mission to cure blood cancer, not someday but today! Please note, online fundraising gifts through THIS webpage made from this point forward will not impact the announcement of the 2018 Triangle Students of the Year, but your donation will still greatly impact LLS’s mission. To vote for me by making a donation, please visit https://ncsoy18.auction-bid.org and 'pledge' for me under my name. Voting will end when silent auction closes on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
I have a very personal connection to his mission and I hope to make a difference. My uncle Javad passed at the age of 53 because of lung cancer. The day he went for chemotherapy, he claimed to have a headache and when they checked his head they discovered three tumors. Unfortunately, he lost his battle to cancer on October 25, 2017. Although this organization is working towards cures for blood cancers, I still feel connected to the cause because of my loss. The sad thing is that I never got the chance to meet him. I was told he was a kind, loving, and funny person. Both of my grandfathers were also affected by cancer. The disease of cancer has taken away too many loved ones from the world, and we need to take action to stop this disease.
I am honored to have been accepted as a candidate in the 2018 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student of the Year. My mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.
Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.
Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!

Amir, Good luck reaching your fundraising goal. I lost a very close friend to multiple myeloma in 2011. My hope is that one day we refocus our attention from cure to prevention or at least give prevention as much attention as we give to cure. Many deadly diseases are preventable. Keep up the great work, Amir.
