I am very excited to tell you about an opportunity I have to truly make a difference.  I am taking part in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Students of the Year Fundraising Campaign.  Over a seven week period from February 7 to March 27, my goal is to raise $25,000 to help eradicate blood cancer.

I was nominated for Students of the Year by one of my teachers. She told me she believed I would be a great candidate for this opportunity to impact the community. I was very grateful and immediately accepted because I like to help others and know that being a part of this will help make a difference in people’s lives. Although I have not lost a friend or family member to a blood cancer, I do have family members that have lifelong illnesses. I understand how difficult it can be to lose a loved one, and therefore am very grateful I can help raise money to help others. I believe that every penny that is raised will impact a patient as well as their family.

Student Candidates for Students of the Year are made up of fifteen high school students across the North Carolina Triad, all from different backgrounds and with different stories competing for one common goal- to raise as much money as possible for Leukemia and Lymphoma research. I want to be a part of this type of change.

Over a million Americans are living with blood cancer and every three minutes someone is diagnosed. Leukemia is the second deadliest cancer in children under the age of 20. Every dollar I raise goes directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
