My Personal Why

Dec 22, 2024

I joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign because I strive to truly make a difference in the world around me. Unfortunately, I have seen firsthand the impact cancer has on so many. No one should have to go through such a brutal disease, and no three words ("You Have Cancer") should have the ability to change someone's life forever. Knowing that through being a part of this campaign I have the opportunity to raise money to fund research ensuring LLS can create a world without blood cancers is incredibly humbling to me. LLS is making an impact, in our community, in this nation, and around the world. So join me, my team, and LLS in our fight to help patients and families fight blood cancers.

Introduction to my Campaign!

Dec 22, 2024

My name is Sabrina Brown, and I am a sophomore at Mount Airy High School. I am excited to announce that I have been nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Student Visionary of the Year campaign. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the largest nonprofit dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers. Luckily, they are at the forefront of the fight to cure blood cancer, and I am ecstatic to join their fight! LLS has invested more than $1.7 billion in cancer research since 1949, and this number grows each year through different campaigns such as The Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign. The Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign is a groundbreaking philanthropic leadership development program for high school students. Through this campaign, students embark on an exciting 7-week journey to raise money to advance research creating a world without blood cancers, hoping to earn the Student Visionary of the Year title. During the 7-weeks candidates raise money as a way to learn while helping others by looking to the future and seeing infinite possibilities. The 7-week period is February 22 to April 12, and all money raised must be raised within this period. However, I will utilize the time until then to spread the word about this campaign, plan, educate, create a team, and organize events. I ask that you join me in the fight to help cure blood cancers and all other cancers as well so that no one, ever has to hear the words “You have Cancer” ever again. Stay tuned for follow-ups, and more information regarding this campaign as I continue to embark on this journey. I am so humbled and grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, no matter how small in the world and I cannot wait to share this journey with you all!

My mom. Dorothy Golding, was a wonderful, kind, giving and strong person who lived with CLL for over 16 years. She passed away from complications from this disease too soon for her family. Love her and miss her every day.
