My Student Visionary of the Year Fundraiser

Dec 19, 2024

Devin and I danced together ever since we were little. We were always in the same class, and were always together. Devin was diagnosed with cancer when he was just 4 years old, so I would have been 5 at the time. When you're 5 you don't really understand why things are happening, and all I knew was that I missed have Devin with me in class.

Devin would continue to dance, even if his attendance was inconsistent, and those were easily the best memories that I have of him. Devin went through more than anybody should have to in their entire life in just a couple years, recieving intestines chemotherapy, full body and brain radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. These treatments did end up getting rid of his leukemia but left devastating effects on his body. When Devin passed away in 2022 he not not because of cancer, but because of the rigor that his body went through to beat blood cancer using the treatments available. This is why advancements in cancer research are imperative so that treatments can be found that don't result in loss of life at all. I co lead this campaign for Devin and for everyone else so that nobody also has to lose their best friend the way that I lost mine.

Grayson, I have lost two best friends to cancer in my life - one as a teenager and one as an adult, so I know the heartbreak. You are an amazing friend to keep Devin's memory alive by raising money to end cancer and I'm sure he would be so proud!
