My Why

Dec 21, 2022

My grandfather, David Chow, is my reason why I chose to be a part of the 2023 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign.  My grandfather was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in July 2021.  He passed away in August 2022.

My grandfather was a hardworking man all his life.  He provided a home for his family and put his 3 kids through college.  Carpentry was his craft.  He would fix anything around the house that needs fixing or build anything that needs building.  My grandfather was a man who would carry 60 lbs of cement bags up and down flights of stairs like it was nothing.  He did not believe in retirement.  He liked to be kept busy.  He worked up to his dying days.

I witnessed the devastating impact of cancer on my grandfather’s life. The cancer was relentless. It took a toll on his life and my family’s lives.  The cancer took my grandfather's strength, his appetite, and his freedom; it left him bed-ridden with pain and weakness instead. The cancer eventually took him from us.

My grandfather bravely fought cancer for one year before he succumbed to the deadly disease. I am forever grateful for the advanced technology and medicine that allowed me to spend that one extra year with my grandfather.  Just for that reason, I am determined to do what I can to raise funds toward cancer research.  Supporting LLS and running this campaign for Student Visionary of the Year is my first step.  Cancer is evil, regardless of the cancer type.  It must be stopped.  Please join me in this fight against cancer!

Ava's Student Visionaries of the Year Fundraiser

Dec 21, 2022

Visionaries look to the future—and see infinite possibility.
They challenge the status quo—and make the impossible possible.
They boldly imagine a better world – and lead the charge to create it.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers.

I am a visionary; I have a vision for a world without ANY cancer, but I need your help.

This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

  • Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
  • Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
  • Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

Regardless if the disease is blood cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer...Cancer is Cancer.  It is evil and we must all work together to fight it.

Please consider joining this fight by making a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Please visit my website often and tell friends who would also like to donate!

Thanks to your support, my efforts will help ensure this generation is the last to see cancer.

On behalf of cancer patients everywhere, thank you!
