My grandfather, Papa as I knew him, passed away six years ago from complications with MDS. Death is a part of life, but it is never easy to cope with. I still find myself thinking that he can't really be gone. I find myself wishing I could show him my latest painting or music that I'm listening to. "That's really neat," he'd say. With continued research and funding, I can help others get a few more weeks, months, even years with their loved ones. A few more memories of watching Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the couch. A few more shared books and talks of Doctor Who. A few more compliments of "You look sharp," when wearing a cute outfit.

No one should have to go through the trials of dealing with cancer. Therefore, I want to make that a reality. I want people to have more time with their loved ones, more memories. I want people to be able to survive cancer.

2020 was a strange and difficult year for all of us, in a multitude of ways. The isolation and alienation that we have all experienced is akin to what many cancer patients experience during their treatment: having to protect their immune systems by maintaining their bubbles and not knowing what the future will bring.

I recognize that 2020 has been a year of financial insecurity and adjustment for many, so I respect that donating may not be a feasible option for you at this time. If this is the case, feel free to pass on my message to anyone else you think of. Any and all self-care and good that you are putting out into the world currently is much needed and appreciated, so thank you.
