Thank you so much for supporting my Students of the Year Campaign! 

Leukemia is a disease that is very near and dear to my heart. My grandmother, Gerry Adcock, was my special person. We did everything together. She played in the yard with me, made cookies, took me to lunch, and watched western movies with me on her “Big Red Bed.” She was the BEST! When I was 4 years old our family received news no one wants to hear, she was diagnosed with CMML, Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia. She was given a favorable prognosis and told to go home and live her life because this was “an old person’s disease.” That didn’t last long and she became very ill. She took oral medication for a year, but it was not successful in slowing the monster. In January of 2010, she underwent a stem cell transplant to hopefully send her into remission. She knew the odds were against her but she was willing to take the chance. Her friends and family fought with her the whole time. They visited when they could, helped her plant her flowers, sent cards, and games for her to play during her isolation. On Good Friday, she was sent home to spend the rest of her days with family. They told us three months at the most, but we got a bonus “God Time.” During this time we took our last beach trip, dyed easter eggs, tromped through the pumpkin patch with me carrying her oxygen pocketbook, visited her friends and family, and made the most of the tim she had left. On November 9, 2010, we said goodbye to my Jammie. She fought the good fight! I hope no one ever has to endure what our Jammie and family have gone through. Losing my “Special Person” is the reason I am raising money to help fight the battle against leukemia. No one should ever have to have this fight!

I have signed up to save lives with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and am working to raise as much as possible over the next 7 weeks. Every dollar raised counts as one vote for my campaign. The candidate(s) whose team tallies the most votes earns the prestigious title of Student or Students of the Year. Will you help me earn that title?
 
As you know, everyone wins when cancer loses. Thanks to your support, my efforts will help fund therapies and treatments that are saving lives. Over the years, support from people like you has been responsible for the blood cancer advancements that have doubled, tripled, and in some cases quadrupled the survival rate for some blood cancers.
 
Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.
 
We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
