I’m Linda Coleman and I have had first hand experience with what cancer can do to a person. After graduating from nursing school, I became a nurse and began a career in which I cared for patients, many of whom had cancer. It surprised me that cancer could hit anyone, like the man in my high school class who was voted “best looking”. In those days in the cancer unit at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina, I quickly learned the true meaning of caring for others. My husband, Phil, and I are both part of large families. I have four sisters, and Phil is one of eleven children. Any cancer diagnosis in the family affects everyone, and I want to be a part of making sure no other families have to deal with the wide reaching effects of cancer, especially at this age where my husband and I have had several friends diagnosed with this horrible disease. I am honored to help my granddaughter, Kenley, and her friend, Lawyer, fight to end this disease.
