Kenley's Students of the Year Fundraiser

Mar 11, 2021

Dear Friends and Family,

Today more than a million Americans are fighting a daily battle with blood cancers and every 4 minutes another person unwillingly joins the fight. I have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the battle and help those living with blood cancers. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has nominated me as a candidate in their Charlotte “Students of the Year” fundraising challenge, and I could not be more excited to make a difference in the lives of patients across the country.

In 2020, it’s estimated that roughly 1.8 million people will be diagnosed with cancer. However, far more than 1.8 million people will be affected by those diagnoses. Every cancer patient has loved ones whose lives are forever changed by the diagnosis of someone they hold dear. I believe that even if you have not experienced cancer first hand, whether it be through yourself or a loved one, someone you know probably has. Join me in helping cancer patients and their families, and contribute to making a difference in their lives.

I want to participate in this program because I know that there is so much we as a society can do to give back to cancer patients for the bravery they exhibit every day. Every single penny of your donation will go towards beating cancer. This program is truly amazing, as money does not just go towards cancer research, but also emotional support for cancer patients. I know that for many, cancer seems like it may never go away. However, with the help of enough people just like you, we can take more steps towards a cancer free world. Now more than ever, we need to show up for those fighting cancer of any kind. We need to let them know that we are in their corner, fighting right alongside them.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest donor to blood cancer research in the nation. They have invested nearly $1.3 billion in research, and are leaders in advancing breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine. These revolutionary new treatments originally discovered through blood cancer research are now being tested in clinical trials for other cancers.

I have assembled Team Bleeding Hope along with my co-candidate Lawyer LaMay, to help me raise funds. We are proud to lead our campaign team and work towards our goal to raise $150,000 during the next 7 weeks - from January 17 – March 5, 2021.

Help be part of the cure and help my team compete in the Charlotte Students of the Year campaign. For more information about LLS and Student of the Year, please visit studentsoftheyear.org.

Sincerely,

Kenley McClure

2021 Student of the Year Candidate
