Students of the Year Charlotte
Khadeja Usmani
Welcome to Khadeja Usmani's SOY Fundraising Page!
My goal is to raise $50,000!
As many of you know, both of my parents are doctors. My whole life I have been watching them help people- in particular, people who have had and who currently have blood cancer. Watching my parents and their relentless fight against this awful disease, I am inspired. It makes me want to do something, too.
When I first heard about the Students of the Year campaign with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I knew it was something I was interested in participating in. My father, Saad Usmani, has spent his life trying to find the solution to the mysteries of blood cancer, and I am proud to share that he is the first ever Charlotte, NC recipient of a research grant from LLS for his work against myeloma. The thought that I could help raise money for his work was amazing. With your help, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is giving me that chance.
For more than 60 years, LLS has invested over $1 billion to advance cancer therapies and save lives. LLS has been relentless in the pursuit of its mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Critical treatment innovations have originated through blood cancer research - radiation, chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation, and new targeted immunotherapies. From 2000 – 2013, nearly 40% of all FDA approved cancer drugs were for blood cancer. Many are now treating or being tested to treat prostate, breast and pancreatic cancers.
This year I have accepted the challenge of participating in the Students of the Year campaign to benefit LLS. My personal goal is to raise at least $50,000 for LLS so we can all help save other lives. Please help me to achieve my goal of seeing a day when fathers, sons, daughters, and mothers are not lost to these dreaded diseases.
Thank you in advance for joining in what is truly a live-saving effort!
