Hello all! :) As the fundraising event has now officially started, let me personally explain some of the reasons I decided to join this team and why YOU should consider donating! Every 3 minutes, a person in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer - an ultimately life-changing and in certain cases, life-ending, disease affecting over 170,000 people in the United States. Not only does blood cancer affect many elders, but also many children and teens. In fact, it is the #1 diagnosis for children, teens and young adults. Kylie Gifford, a classmate of mine, is a candidate for the 2021 LLS’s Students of the Year Campaign. As a member of her fundraising team, I am asking you to consider donating to our cause. Over the next seven weeks, Jan. 7 – Feb. 28, 2021, we are working to raise as much money possible for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Our team goal is $30,000, and my personal goal is to raise at least $2,500. This money will support LLS’s mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients - it truly has made a difference in the lives of SO MANY! So, why LLS, you may ask? Well, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) has helped advance 56 of the 66 blood cancer treatment options approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration since 2017. AND, LLS has contributed over $1.2 billion dollars into cancer research!! Not only do they fund research, but they support patients and advocate for cancer patients and treatments at the federal government level. LLS makes a SERIOUS impact on people’s lives. This remarkable progress is the result of research made possible by generous donors (which may be YOU!) A donation of $50 helps fund LLS educational materials for healthcare providers and their patients, $150 helps fund general lab supplies for one week to help LLS-funded researchers conduct laboratory work needed to develop blood cancer treatments and $250 helps defray the costs of treatment-related to travel for a patient. Our personal connection: Kylie’s best friend’s sister, Courtney, fortunately survived blood cancer through the amazing research and treatment advancements made by blood cancer organizations around the world, such as LLS. However, a family friend’s son unfortunately passed away with blood cancer at age 6, just days after being diagnosed. Not everyone diagnosed with leukemia or other blood cancers wins their battle. Your contribution will fund research such as that which saved Courtney’s life. Donations must be received by February 28, 2021. Don’t forget to request a matching donation if your company matches! By supporting LLS, funding groundbreaking research, and spreading awareness, we can continue to make strides in curing this disease.
