I have accepted a nomination as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2019 Students of the Year Campaign. For seven weeks, starting January 7, 2019, students across the country will be raising awareness of the research, programs, and advocacy being conducted through LLS in addition to funds to support their mission to cure blood cancers. I got involved with this campaign because there comes a time where if you want something to happen you have to take the initiative. Although I cannot cure Leukemia Cancer, I can take the steps needed to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Through the course of this campaign, if I can raise enough money to make even the smallest difference in someone else's life, then that is a success and a win in my book. I would love the opportunity to share more about it with you, in addition to the great work being conducted by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I was specifically drawn to LLS because to date, they have invested more than 1 billion in research aimed at helping blood cancer patients live longer, healthier lives. In the past 24 months, the FDA has approved an incredible 37 cancer treatments and 31 of them were funded by LLS. Not only does LLS has breakthrough treatments, but the research is also being tested in clinical trials with other cancers such as breast, pancreatic, stomach, prostate, skin, lung, and as well as other diseases like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
