Our Campaign

Mar 03, 2021

Welcome to our campaign page!

Our names are Zoe, Haley, and Lilly. We are juniors at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School and find passion in helping our community by being involved in various opportunities of leadership. When the three of us met in 2019,  Zoe and Lilly, both lost their grandmothers to cancer. We spent many nights praying, crying, and supporting each other through the hardest summer of our lives. Our bond is an unbreakable one because it is rooted in so much heartache that has now turned into a passion. Today we are committed to doing everything in our power to put an end to cancer.

Our team's name is Flying High for a Cure because we are aiming high and are determined to soar through this campaign. We run in memory and support of our loved ones or team members' loved ones affected by cancer. The team is composed of 27 individuals with moms, dads, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, best friends, you name it who have battled cancer. It only seems fair that this campaign is in honor of ALL of those remarkable souls because each and every personal story is important. This campaign is our chance to rally our community together in support of the individuals we have lost from cancer and also celebrate the victories of persons who have overcome this disease. (At the end of our page you will see pictures of Zoe, Haley, Lilly, and team members' loved ones who have battled cancer.

What is Students of the Year?

Students of The Year is a campaign through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society that aims to find a cure for blood cancers and various types of diseases and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. For 7 weeks, we will be competing against other high schoolers to raise awareness and reach our goal of $50,000 for this incredible organization. We accept donations starting March 3rd through April 23rd.

Why choose THIS organization?

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the global leader in all cancer research because blood is more accessible than tumors. Meaning, doctors can administer more tests and research in comparison to tediously and painfully extracting tumor samples in other areas of the body. Some of LLS’s most famous breakthroughs include: funding the research for Chemotherapy, the early understandings of genomics, and most recently their two CAR T-cell immunotherapies were FDA approved in 2017. Revolutionary advancements for blood cancers are CURRENTLY undergoing clinical testing along with bone cancer, brain cancer, breast cancer, kidney cancer, diabetes, liver cancer, lung cancer, lupus nephritis, melanoma, multiple sclerosis, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, stomach cancer, and skin cancer. That’s why we can say proudly: “Beating Cancer is in Our Blood.”

One of our favorite things about this organization is the incredible sense of community within it. LLS is a network of passionate, hard-working, and driven souls that REALLY want to make a difference and build each other up. LLS advocates for patients and families undergoing blood cancer by providing emotional, physical, and financial support. In our 6 months of involvement, we have encountered numerous individuals who have shared their stories of how the LLS family changed their life for the better.

How can you support us?

While we are not accepting donations until March 3rd there are still many ways you can support us. You can help us plan Covid friendly events, sharing our link to family and friends, posting on social media, reaching out to corporate businesses to set up a sponsorship meeting, secure auction items, and so on.

Feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns regarding joining our team.

All donations are tax-deductible and go STRAIGHT to research and advocacy. NEVER outside sources or for personal gain.

Now, I ask you to think of somebody you have lost to or affected by cancer and donate on their behalf. Join our fight. Support our cause. Will YOU be part of the generation that finally puts an end to cancer?
