Welcome to Bad Blood Boys' SOY Fundraising Page!

Mar 01, 2020

Welcome to the Bad Blood Boys fundraising page! We're just two high schoolers raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with the hopes of finding a cure for blood cancer. Check out why and how you can support our amazing cause below!

Our Why: Emily Dumler

Feb 03, 2020
Meet Emily Dumler, the reason why we are here.

Emily is a close family friend of the Bad Blood Boys team. In August 2013, she was admitted to the hospital for a bleeding disorder. After 43 days in the hospital, a splenectomy, and 45 blood and platelet transfusions, she was finally diagnosed with stage II diffused large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 32. After six rounds of chemotherapy and a few short months of remission, she relapsed. In January 2015, she received a stem cell transplant after enduring several days of the hardest treatment imaginable. Just a few short months later, she found out the stem-cell transplant was unsuccessful. She was given 6 months to live when her doctor’s encouraged her to find a clinical trial to enroll in. In July 2015, she was the third patient in the world enrolled in this Phase I investigational treatment. The CAR T-cell therapy she received was developed with 90% funding from LLS. Had LLS not funded this project, researchers say that CAR T-cell therapy would not have further developed. Emily is doing great today and has been in remission since August 2015.

After beating her blood cancer, Emily decided to give back to the organization that saved her life. She ran for the LLS Woman of the Year campaign and raised $165,000! She has nominated us, the Bad Blood Boys, to carry on her hard work in raising money for this wonderful organization that saves so many lives like hers.

Here is a video of Emily and her husband Scott on TODAY talking about her recovery.

Welcome to Bad Blood Boys' SOY Fundraising Page!

Mar 01, 2020

We have been given an amazing opportunity to help over 1.3 million Americans who are living with blood cancer through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS.) We are excited to be nominated and running for the Students of the Year campaign that is being launched by LLS. The Bad Blood Boys are competing against other teams from the Kansas City area to raise the most funds for LLS from February 13th through April 2nd. All of the funds that we raise will go directly to LLS to support their goal of curing blood cancers and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. We are doing everything we can to reach our fundraising goal of $75,000. We need your help!

LLS has contributed $1.2 billion into blood cancer research and has saved millions of lives. In 2017, 15 of 18 FDA approved treatments were funded by LLS. Since 2000, more than 40% of the new cancer therapies approved by the FDA are for blood cancers. Research funded by LLS leads to treatment advances in other forms of cancer and diseases as well, such as breast cancer, liver cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s.

We are motivated to support this cause by the inspiring success story of our close family friend Emily Dumler, who is alive today because of a clinical trial funded by LLS. We are hopeful that our efforts can help lead to more inspiring stories like this.

We ask for your help to support the Bad Blood Boys in our efforts to find a cure for blood cancers by donating here on our fundraising page. You can also check this page for updates during the campaign and can share this link and code with friends and family. Finally, if you are aware of any businesses that may be interested in helping via donation or sponsorship, please let us know.

Thank you for helping us fight against Cancer! Any donation is a step towards finding a cure!
