Hello Friends and Family,

Happy Spring! I have been given a life changing opportunity to help over 1.3 million Americans who are living with blood cancer! The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is launching its Students of the Year campaign and I am happy to be nominated to run for Students of the Year with my co-candidate Sara Tamayo.

Team Hopeful Hearts is competing with 10 other Kansas City teams to raise the most funds for LLS during a 7 week period from Feb. 17- April 7, 2019. Funds will go directly to LLS in support of their longstanding mission to cure blood cancers and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. We will put forth our best efforts to reach our team goal of $65,000. To accomplish this, we need your support!

LLS has pumped $1.2 BILLION dollars into cutting-edge research. This research has saved millions of lives. Since the year 2000, more than 40% of the new cancer therapies approved by the FDA are for blood cancers.  LLS funded 15 of 18 FDA approved treatments in 2017.  LLS funded research leads to treatment advances for other cancers and diseases, such as breast cancer, liver cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Alzheimer's. 

I have decided to support this amazing cause because my Grandma had cancer. She went through treatments of chemotherapy, but in the end the chemo was too aggressive for her. I am very hopeful that one day, with research, there will be another option that would be less aggressive towards the human body to treat cancer. I am writing to ask you to support Team Hopeful Hearts by making a heartfelt donation to LLS through my fundraising page https://events.lls.org/mid/kansascitysoy19/ssunbh or with the donation form provided. Please check for team updates on this website during our campaign and please share this link with your friends and family!
