An Amazing Opportunity

Feb 14, 2019

I have the been given the privilege and an amazing opportunity to make an impact for my community, my school, my future and to help save lives of future survivors.

Through their “Student of the Year” program, I am raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am doing this in honor of my five year old sister Ryan who is a Leukemia Survivor. My family knows first hand the struggles that come with such a heartbreaking diagnosis.

I’m raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Research to find a cure. If I raise more money than my competing candidates, I will receive a $2,500 scholarship, as well as a $1,000 grant for my school theater department. I have a goal set to raise $10,000 for the LLS during this 7 week challenge.

Every time somebody donates through the website your return email is a receipt. If the donation is above $250 LLS will mail a receipt.

I am asking for support to help me reach my goal, but most importantly to help save lives of patients in need. I am setting up a variety of fundraising events throughout my campaign time starting February 17th to April 6th 11:59pm. There are many ways you can contribute!

  • Register to get your seat for March 2,2019 at our Wine & Paint at the Got Art Gallery in Downtown Lee’s Summit before seats sell out!
  • We will have jars out around town at local area restaurants and stores and school’s to collect money for Pennies for Patients.
  • Miss Ryan will be hosting a super fun Kids art event during Spring Break Week at the Got Art Gallery on March 19,2019

Every time you share this letter you transform into a hero for kids with cancer. You’re not only raising funds researchers depend on to cure childhood cancer - you’re also spreading awareness.

It shows kids who are fighting for their life that you support them, and it brings hope to their families.

Every three minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer- that’s 300,000 kids every year.

Truly believe in the cause and be passionate about it.

JOIN THE FIGHT: You can make a difference in the war against childhood cancers by participating in our challenge.

Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t respect or care about age, gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status or a healthy lifestyle. It’s a tornado that steals the spotlight.

-Every 3 minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer.

-Approximately every 9 minutes, someone in the US dies from a blood cancer.

-This statistic represents approximately 160 people each day or more than 6 people every hour.

-In 2018, 60,300 people are expected to be diagnosed with leukemia.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I want to spend as much time on as possible. The word cancer is life changing. So I want to raise money for LLS for a chance to change the outcome of cancer, and it’s toll on people's lives. We’re trying to make a difference, what about you?

When I heard about this opportunity I was sold because cancer impacted my family. My sister fought for 2 1/2 years and beat it, and now it’s time for me to fight for her. Thank you so much for your support!

I am honored to participate in the 2019 Students of the Year program, a seven-week initiative in which select high school students from around the country participate in a fundraising competition to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am proud to be raising critical dollars in honor of a young patient hero who is currently battling or is in remission from a blood cancer. Each dollar is a vote. The candidate team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named Student(s) of the Year. Our mission is to not only raise the most money but also to bring attention to blood cancers like leukemia, which is the most common form of cancer in children and teens.

Since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled. And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are helping patients with other cancers and serious diseases. In fact, drugs first approved for blood cancers are now approved to treat patients with stomach cancers, skin cancers, and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS-funded research but will help provide critical information and support for patients, and support advocacy for laws to ensure patients can access the care and treatments they need.

Please visit our website often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere, thank you for your support!
